The VentureOne - by Carver

Air Car Magazine is long overdue an article for the Carver. Whether you are looking at an All-Electric, Hybrid or Gasoline version of this "car", its the one every kid, of any age, can dream of again.

"The car I dreamed about as a kid" is a statement that isn't often heard from kids these days. The girls want Minis or VW Bugs - but I suppose that's as close as I've heard from my five children. My thirteen year old boy doesn't look twice at any of the cars on the road today - and that's saying something.

Of course, the eyes of young males will wander to motorcycles now and again, but even my young kids are sensible enough to see their is a ton of danger from slippery road conditions or from the poor driving habits of others.

Technically, the Carver is actually a motorcycle, but with a twist. In the same way the Piaggio's (image right) two front tires never leave the ground, the Carver's two rear tires never leave the ground - but that doesn't stop its passenger from tilting as much as 45 degrees into any turn you please. That might be a tough angle to manage your rush hour commute coffee cup, but it will also be the most fun you ever likely had running into work with as well.

When I was a kid I in the late 1970s, I dreamed of owning a Corvette and now - I dream of owning one of these - And, on a lot of very practical levels, the Carver makes a lot of sense. Here's why ...

The All-Electric VentureOne

  • 90 mph top speed
  • 120 miles between fill-up
  • 0-100km/h in 8 seconds
  • front and side air bags
  • high-strength roll-cage

We've collected a number of videos of the Carver - click here to view them all...

A Covered Motorcycle

Now, a covered motorcycle is not a new idea. They've been around for years and are routinely marketed and sold in the third world.

What makes the Carver different is its ability to "bank" into turns - while leaving its back wheels firmly flat on the pavement. If you've ever worn rollerskates around a closed track, you will no-doubt recall the blisters that an inline skate never created.

"Banking" while turning is better for a lot of very technical engineering reasons - and, its much easier on the body. Remember, your muscles work much harder to counter the inconsistent forces of inertia as you drive upright.

In a banked attitude, the seat cushion absorbs the lionshare of the force and you get to better enjoy the experience. You might not have even noticed that most of our roads and even train tracks are banked to ease our turn and to better counter the forces of inertia as we change direction at speed.
